Marsa Shelburn

I began painting in “precious spare time” after graduating college as a math major, completing a Ph.D in International Economics, and while teaching college full-time. I called it my “mid-life crisis.” With seven local art lessons, I bought oil supplies, painted a portrait of my son, and couldn’t stop! Awards in local art shows and comments from more experienced painters encouraged me.
For me, geometric shapes are fascinating, textures are a delight, colors can be amazing, and emotions generated by visual art are real and complex. I try to make paintings that appeal in all those ways. A painting of almost any subject matter can use shapes, color, texture, and emotional appeal to interest viewers; so my paintings run the gamut from portraits to landscapes and abstracts.
