Nothing gets the design ideas flowing like a walk through an impressive garden. Some are personal masterpieces and others are continuous life-long love affairs.
They all manifest the passion of their gardeners and will help ignite your passion for designing your own garden. Viewing what another garden designer has accomplished opens your eyes to what is attainable.

This program offers tour participants the opportunity to visit exceptional
private gardens, which are generally not open to the public. Tours are
throughout Columbia County and Augusta, including historic Summerville.
A family home since 1942, the current owners are restoring the grounds and have already added over 700 bushes and trees since the project commenced. Original water features, statuary, a potting shed and raised vegetable beds have been discovered and rescued. Additions include a fire pit and a camellia garden comprised 85 camellias gifted from a friend.
The front garden is a geometric layout of evergreen elements and pathways, populated with small-scale deciduous trees, flowering shrubs, and herbaceous perennials. The back’s woodland garden features an original oak tree, repurposed Indica and various shade-appreciating evergreens, and flowering shrubs are the initial elements to create a sense of place.
A “Welcome to the Farm” sign beckons you into an urban farm occupying much of the landscape. Raised beds, watermelon and asparagus patches, herb and flower gardens, and mushroom logs provide a habitat for chickens, rabbits and bees. Learn from the owners about their organic journey.
The certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat has evolved over the last 23 years to provide food, water, and shelter for wildlife while maintaining sustainable practices to ensure soil, air and water stay healthy and clean. Starting with a blank slate the owners have added hardscapes, terraced garden beds, meandering paths, flowing creeks and a large koi pond. Visitors will find a mixture of natives, perennials, and annuals designed to attract pollinators and provide year-round blooms and interest.
What once began as weeds in 2012 has blossomed into an informal perennial garden and gathering spot for family weddings, dinners and parties. Azaleas, roses and irises are just some of the plants that follow the paths, steps, vertical and rock gardens nestled within the garden landscape.
“Big ideas for small yards” is the theme of this twenty-year landscape project. Flowering shrubs, perennials and Japanese maples intermix with 13 box turtles, whimsical features, waterfalls and a koi pond. Tropical plants are propagated in the she-shed.
Proceeds support the enduring legacy of the Sacred Heart Cultural Center.
